Founded in 2002, Homeward Pikes Peak has served our community as a leader in guiding the homeless discussion in Colorado Springs. HPP provides resources to individuals and families that help overcome the barriers to developing and maintaining stable housing and sober living, and offers individual and group treatment, relapse prevention, counseling, trauma recovery, and other treatment services. We are in search of an experienced Staff Accountant to join our team.

The Staff Accountant reports to and supports the Finance Director with cash management, invoicing, balance sheet management and audit responsibilities. This position requires timely, accurate processing of payroll, invoices, and payments to ensure the reliability of our grant funding.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting and General Ledger
• Assists the Director of Finance with month-end and year-end close process by preparing journal entries and monthly account reconciliations and alerting the Director of Finance to any unusual variances to ensure timely financial reporting.
• Assists in preparing monthly financial reports for Program Directors, CEO and the Board of Directors.
• Shares bi-weekly payroll processing with the Human Resources Manager, the Director of Finance, and the CEO. These duties include balancing monthly payrolls to the extent of bi-weekly payrolls, time off accruals, payroll adjustments, garnishments, and benefit withholdings.
• Assists the Director of Finance with bi-weekly payroll journal entries.
• Reconciles quarterly and annual 941’s and reports any variances to the Director of Finance.
• Assists the Director of Finance with updating the Fixed Asset schedules to ensure monthly accurate depreciation journal entries.
• Assists the Director of Finance with annual audit documentation and requests.
• Assists the Director of Finance with monthly and quarterly grant reimbursement requests.
• Contributes to and maintains accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP and best practices.
• Assists the Director of Finance with evaluating and implementing the Blackbaud accounting system.
• Completes special accounting projects and analysis, as required, and other duties as assigned.

Accounts Payable
• Takes the lead in transitioning Homeward Pikes Peak into an electronically automated A/P process.
• Responsible for all aspects of A/P and correlating the current manual process with the go live date of the new accounting software.
• Ensures vendor, GL and payment information is up to date to allow for an automated A/P process to be a success.
• Creates a strong working relationship with all vendors.
• Submits bi-weekly 401k withholdings and company match to the 401k provider.

Accounts Receivable
• Prepares deposits received by mail and records them in the accounting software.
• Records online deposits in the accounting software.
• Notifies the Director of Development of any money received related to fundraising.
• Works with the Director of Sober Homes on client balances and notifies the Director of Finance when a past due client balance has either become uncollectible or if the client is more than 60 days past due.
• Moves Homeward Pikes Peak to an accrual basis on client payments in the sober homes and records it in the accounting software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent.
• Ability to read and understand a balance sheet.
• Nonprofit experience is a plus.
• Grant reporting experience a plus.
• Experience with Paylocity and Blackbaud is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office including advanced ability with Excel functions and formulas.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to use critical thinking methods to prioritize, interpret, and problem-solve.
• Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships across the organization and with vendors.
• Must be detail-oriented and possess exemplary organizational skills.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
• The salary range for this position is $65,000 – $70,000 annually DOE. This is an Exempt position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing job duties, the employee will be regularly required to sit at a desk for as many as eight hours a day.
