PEER RECOVERY COACH/THE COMMONS – PART-TIME
ABOUT HOMEWARD PIKES PEAK
The mission of HPP is to work with individuals and families in our community to achieve their full potential through supportive housing and recovery services to rebuild dignity & self-sufficiency and permanently exit homelessness. Our efforts focus on overcoming the barriers to developing and maintaining stable housing and sober living. POSITION SUMMARY
The Peer Recovery Coach is part of a multi-disciplinary team and provides client support, advocacy, and information on long-term recovery. The Peer Recovery Coach also role models competency in personal recovery and ongoing coping skills. The position will have set hours to meet the needs of the clients with a schedule of Monday – Friday 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. (4 hours a day, 5 days a week). This is a part-time, non-exempt position authorized to work 20 hours per week. This position is also grant- funded, and ongoing employment is contingent upon ongoing funding.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery through the use of one-to-one and group sessions.
• Assist clients in their recovery and work with the Case Manager and treatment team to ensure the client is working through their individual service plan.
• Employ motivational interviewing and support to build recovery skills of residents.
• May attend appointments with clients.
• Provide resources and referrals for clients and help them engage in sober activities that will support early recovery.
• Assist clients in working with their case manager or treatment team in determining the steps he/she needs to take in order to achieve these goals and self-directed recovery.
• Assist clients in setting up and sustaining self-help (mutual support) groups, as well as means of locating and joining existing groups.
• Utilize tools to assist clients in creating their own individual wellness and recovery plans.
• Support clients’ vocational choices and assist them in choosing a job that matches their strengths, overcoming job-related anxiety by reviewing job applications, and providing interview tips.
• Assist clients in building social skills in the community that will enhance job acquisition and tenure.
• Identify any problems, challenges, or obstacles in coordination of services, identify potential solutions, and resolve such problems, challenges, or obstacles in a timely manner.
• Manage a calendar to track internal, client, and program schedules.
• Document intervention activities in an accurate and timely manner and seek consultation from supervisor or other staff as necessary.
• Enter data into, and maintain, accurate records of activities in an electronic health record and other tracking tools.
• Gather, analyze, and report client statistical data.
• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide information on program services and respond courteously to inquiries.
• Ability to work comfortably among clients with or without substance abuse disorder, who are referred from city and county parole/probation departments, department of social services, and other relevant agencies.
• Demonstrate compassion and empathy for people in recovery and those still suffering from the disease of addiction.
• Active listening skills and ability to safekeep confidential information.
• Serve as a role model and mentor for others.
• Provide consistent source of honest feedback regarding self-destructive patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting.
• Identify and help resolve obstacles to recovery.
• Act as a broker, linking individuals and families to formal and informal sources of sober activities, employment, counseling, treatment, and recovery support.
HOMEWARD PIKES PEAK TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES
• Participate in weekly supervision.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and monthly client luncheons.
• Attend and/or participate or interact with donors, attend community events, or fundraising as requested.
• Integrate with the overall organization and collaborate with the community.
• Produce documentation promptly as requested for audits and audit resolutions.
• Maintain office environment to professional standards and display abundant teamwork skills.
• Consistently display, adhere to, and promote the company’s Values.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES – and MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• High School Diploma or GED required. AA preferred.
• Knowledge of basic care coordination, medical/hospital and/or community resources.
• Lived experience is preferred, with an understanding of challenges related to homelessness, mental illness, and substance abuse.
• Experience working directly with people from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.
• Certification as a Peer Specialist (for example, Colorado Peer and Family Specialist/CPFS) and passing the national exam (through www.naadac.org ) is required.
• CAS (Colorado Addiction Counselor) or CAT (Certified Addictions Tech) certification is preferred.
• First Aid / CPR certified, or willing to obtain within 3 months of hire.
• Prior experience in Patient Navigation and connecting patients to required services or resources.
• Prior experience in working with women, pregnant women, or postpartum women and families.
• Experience with motivational interviewing techniques.
• Experience working with clients who are or have been involved with the criminal justice system, probation/parole, human services, and/or other similar referral sources.
• Experience providing administrative support to clients, families, staff, and other stakeholders in a substance abuse treatment setting.
• Self-starter and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong computer skills required with ability to work with electronic record keeping applications, use of Excel spreadsheets, including PowerPoint and Word.
• Understanding of HIPAA regulations and standards regarding privacy and confidentiality in the provision of therapy services and medical billing.
• Valid Colorado driver’s license, clean driving record, and must have personal vehicle insurance.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The pay range for this position is $21 – $23 per hour, depending on experience.
