Position Summary
The Housing Assistant provides continuity of services in housing and facilities for The Commons, a supportive housing apartment building in Colorado Springs. The Housing Assistant will ensure that each resident adheres to the rules of the program and their lease. This position works five overnight shifts and may include one-weekend overnight shift as part of the 5 nights. The hours of work are 8:00pm– 4:00am. Discussion about the specific shifts will occur during the interview and hiring process and will be finalized with the Supervisor. This position reports to the Program Manager at The Commons.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide support to residents living in a supportive housing program, including potential crisis intervention, recovery support, and resource and referral assistance.
• Regular walk-throughs of the building to ensure the wellness and safety of all residents. Identify any problems or needs for maintenance for the next day.
• Support the clients and residents in their recovery and redirect the client to work with their Case Manager to ensure the client is supported through their individual service plan. May utilize motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care in support of the clients.
• Mediate resident conflicts, receive complaints, and coordinate responses with building staff and Case Managers.
• Work closely with property management and The Commons support staff to mitigate and resolve any personal, medical, or facility emergency.
• Document intervention activities in an accurate and timely manner and seek consultation from Supervisor or other staff as necessary.
• Enter data into, and maintain, accurate records of activities in electronic health record and other tracking applications.
• Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES and MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Understanding of the mental health and substance abuse recovery process.
• First Aid and CPR certification required or to be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
• Mental Health First Aid certification by NAMI is required or to be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
• Understand HIPAA regulations and standards regarding privacy and confidentiality in the provision of therapy services and medical billing.
• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job description, including the ability to move or lift 25 lbs occasionally.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Lived Experience is useful for understanding the culture of a supportive housing program within a Housing-First model.
• Peer Recovery Coach Certificate preferred.
• Addictions counseling knowledge, experience, or certifications preferred.
• Knowledge and training in generalized health care standards, substance abuse recovery process and treatment, mental health care, and trauma-informed care skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• While performing job duties, the employee will be regularly required to sit and stand for the duration of their shift.
• Must be able to move or lift 25 lbs. on a regular basis, and heavier on occasion.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
• The pay rate for this position is $23.00 per hour. This is a full-time position authorized to work no more than 40 hours per week.
