Homeward Pikes Peak Launching New Family Recovery Model
Harbor House will support parents and children beginning in the Fall of 2026
Colorado Springs, Colo. – After more than two decades of supporting men as they built sober lives in recovery and much consideration, Homeward Pikes Peak’s (HPP) board and leadership have decided to transition the Harbor House from an all-male recovery home to a family recovery home for parents and their children. This move aims to provide assistance to families in need while addressing the significant shortage in housing options that allow children to remain with their parents as they pursue sobriety and stability.
“While new recovery housing options for single men have expanded across Colorado Springs, opportunities for families to recover together remain scarce,” explained Beth Roalstad, CEO of Homeward Pikes Peak. “A family recovery housing program will serve a critical group of community members experiencing homelessness with the services they need to change a whole family’s life. We are responding to a community need.”
Homeward Pikes Peak is responding to this local gap in services by transforming Harbor House into a family recovery home, ensuring that recovery no longer means separation from one’s children. According to the most recent Point in Time survey performed by the Pikes Peak Continuum of Care, while the overall number of homeless individuals in Colorado Springs went down by 19% between 2025 and 2026, the number of children under 17 included in that same count increased by 15%. HPP will work to rehab the apartments and make them comfortable and functional for families with small children. The new sober-living home is expected to open in fall of 2026.
Thirteen Harbor House residents were given 90 days’ notice on May 27, 2026, including connection to support from the HPP team to secure a positive placement. Two current residents, who have children living with them, will remain at Harbor House. 11 single residents will receive assistance during the transition period, with one of them having already secured stable housing. Homeward Pikes Peak is honored to have walked along side over 500 men in the last 24 years as they’ve moved from homelessness or housing instability to sober, employed and stable members of our community.
